clean the shitty wiring in a student house? if the wall mains source is shitty, how can you improve it?

i don't know... it just seems all my tech problems started since moving my shit into the new house

i'm having a hard time understanding how a car-transit that i've made dozens of times before could break a PSU AND a mobo

that must have been one pretty catastrophic car-ride, no?

it was mostly meant as a joke, but i assume you can get some sort of power bar that stabilizes the current through it.  google is telling me a power conditioner is the word im looking for

Get a surge protector multitap thing if you don't already have one.

Really, as long as you're using reasonably good power supplies, it doesn't matter a whole lot what you get out of the wall.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

yeah we had some really funky electric problems here one day, about the only thing that would turn on was my pc.  all other electronics wouldn't run due to lack of voltage or no power at all (one leg was dead one was underpowered).

I was under the impression that even PSUs nowadays can suffer from a bad power source. I'll obviously defer to you since you play with this kinda stuff in your free time.

Uz - perhaps you can get a power meter and check the electric sockets and see if you really are having a problem? You're studying at uni, so I imagine you must have some kind of an electrical engineering department, right? Buy a few beers and offer it to one of the guys there to come by and check your place out.

As long as there's between 80 and 280V in the outlet, any decent quality unit will run perfectly. "Decent quality unit" being the key here.

will get a HX650w in the new-year... have paid out my ass for power supplies lately and have had enough of the expenditure

yeah, cause they got it into stock for my repair only... it's a standard student-repair shop... mainly laptop troubleshooting and shit

so i had to pay a 'services' charge for 4 weeks of in-shop attention and 'effort', and pay for their wholesale purchase of the PSU

which i then didn't take cause i thought it would be utter shit and i didn't need

which i could have needed in the end considering i have now essentially paid for my 3rd PSU in as many days

fucking headache

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware aka MBAM - it's the tactical nuke of the AV programs. Hopefully that should kill it before you have to get ComboFix (the Death Star of AV).

This one's got a decent dual core processor, windows 7, and the nvidia ion 2 is plenty for anything non-gaming by the look of it. It's hardly even a netbook

anything less than 15" and imo you're wasting your time and money. it's just not a good 'working' device.

but okay. everyone thinks these piss-tiny laptops are great nowadays.

they have a shorter lifespan than a pissing iphone

fits nicely in your Channel purse doesn't it liq? I have one too, smaller, and I use it when I go to a drink with some geeky friends of mine. Some serious exchange of data happens.
