I don't understand how these movies are designed to "line the pockets of an old toff" if that old toff died in 1964...
I had a feeling the movie was going to be mediocre when I see commercials pushing out the toys before the movie starts, though I probably see it in the cheap $1 movie threatre, along with FF5 and Thor.
I think that has more to do with any movie's chances of success or failure than being part of a series itself. Look at Star Trek's own spotty film record.Kampframmer wrote:

There's only been a few bad ones. 3/4 is a good strikerate for such a long running series.
Star Wars though, you've got the original trilogy and then that crapfest that is so bad I shouldn't have to mention Jar Jar or midichlorians but I will anyway to make you feel bad.
