on craigslist. its local.
the guy wanted 1900-2100 so i emailed him and asked if he would take 1700 cause thats all ive got.

he said:

"$1700 yeah but im going to let you know right now, it needs a new rotor and break pad on the back right tire. a $100 fix thats why im selling it for so cheap. if your still interested shoot me a text or just e mail me back on here"

So,

Saying this 2002 Intrepid is mechanically sound, and appearence wise is good looking, how immediate is the rotor and break pad problem?

And 100 dollars, if i buy and do it myself, ill have to find someone to help me with that.

Truely 100 dollars?
Hard job to do?
Worth it considering i really do only have 1700 dollars TO MY NAME untill the friday after this.

How many miles are on the car?
Has it been wrecked?
Rotor and brake pads are easy. You should be able to get a rotor and pads for around $100 from Checker, AutoZone, Napa, etc. I actually checked the Napa site and the rotor is about $44 for the "premium" and the pads were around $40 also. Dodge parts will cost you more, but you don't need them. You should grease the bearing while you have the rotor off, you may want to replace the bearing if the car has a lot of miles.
Something is wrong if only one rear brake is worn out, but the others are fine. The front brakes do the majority of the braking and get changed more often. I would say typically 3-4 times more often. Brakes (front-front, back-back) usually wear evenly unless something is wrong.

What do these cars typically go for, $3-6k?
Unless this car has a lot of miles on it I don't know why he'd sell it for so much less than they typically go for considering the problem is an easy 30 minute repair.

Yes, we call them "rotors"

They still use drum brakes on cars made this century?

Yes some cars still have drum brakes on the rear.

Most standard non expensive FWD cars only have discs at the front and drums at the back

What's the performance like on something like this. Apparently a 2002 Dodge Intrepid has a 3.5L V6. But I bet it's still slow as shit

And it's not that ugly, a car is a car, the guy is like 16 years old. Only in America is it easy for a kid to get a 3.5L V6

Avoid Dodge, those things like to break pretty easily because they like to put damn plastic were it shoudl have metal.

On the OP, yes, I also find it rare that it only has that broken. If you can, please go inspect it with someone that knows about cars to avoid a serious case of "why the f*ck did I buy this".

I think Dodge makes a pretty solid vehicle. I have a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L V8 engine with 4WD, that I found for $2,900. My truck seriously has no problems at all other than body work. No leaks, everything works right and the truck is 10 years old. Before you buy it though use car fax history report to check if the car has been totaled and what not. If everything turns out good on there I say go for it.

YOU DO NOT WANT A DODGE INTREPID.
you will be selling it soon, you are just getting anxious. Buy a good car. And brake rotors will likely be over $100 alone. I was just buying normal ones for $35 each front, and $28 each rear, + taxes.

get a European car/ or a European version of an US car. I don't know any car where the US version is better looking than the EU one.

Before you purchase any vehicle from a private citizen you need to do a few things.

Make sure there are no outstanding liens on the vehicle. It would REALLY suck to have to pay for it twice.

Get it inspected by a mechanic you know and trust or i believe AAA will have an inspection center near you. WHY? because you might have heard teh expression: "if it is too good to be true then it probably is"

anybody who will to do a favour to a stranger on a car purchase should set off alarm bells.
The US economy is a giant Ponzi scheme. And 'to big to fail' is code speak for 'niahnahniahniahnah 99 percenters'
