Just got my 1TB drive friday

Got it all hooked up

And of course its not showing up in my computer because it hasnt been formatted yet...

So my stupid question - how do I format this extra drive so that I can put files onto it (not run an O/S on it)

I already have two drives, but each of those came from my older systems, so I've always just formatted and installed windows

I tried booting from disk but for some reason it isnt working (checked boot priorities and all)

My friend just installed a new drive, and he said he formatted it through Vista... But he doesn't remember what he did

Thanks in advance BF2s

When you plug it in it should be formatted in either FAT32 or NFTS and if you right click on it you should be able to format again if you want.
At least thats how its been for all 3 of my externals so far...

After you have installed a new hard disk, your computer should recognize the new disk if you have installed it correctly. When you turn on your computer, the basic input/output system (BIOS) should automatically detect the new hard disk.

If you plan to use the new hard disk as the primary partition that contains Windows, then you will have to install Windows on the disk before you can use your computer. You will need a Windows Vista installation disc to do this. For more information, search Help and Support for "Installing and reinstalling Windows."

If you plan to use the new hard disk as a secondary disk (one that does not contain Windows), you should be able to see the new hard disk drive the next time you start your computer and log on to Windows. After Windows starts, click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click Computer, and then look for your new drive in the Computer folder. The letter assigned to the drive will depend on your computer’s configuration. If you don't see the new hard disk drive, try looking for it in Computer Management.

1. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management.‌ Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. In the Navigation pane, under Storage, click Disk Management, and then look for the new drive.

I dont see where I format, I see that I can format the other drives that have actual names (C:\ , D:\) but I only see, "New Simple Volume, New Spanned Volume" and "New Striped Volume"

what do I do?
