Users of the Microsoft's Internet Explorer are being urged by experts to switch to a rival until a serious security flaw has been fixed. The flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people's computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say. Microsoft urged people to be vigilant while it investigated and prepared an emergency patch to resolve it. Internet Explorer is used by the vast majority of the world's computer users.

Microsoft says it has detected attacks against IE 7.0 but said the "underlying vulnerability" was present in all versions of the browser. As many as 10,000 websites have been compromised since last week to take advantage of the security flaw, said antivirus software maker Trend Micro. The websites have been mostly serving up programs that steal computer game passwords, but the flaw could be "adopted by more financially motivated criminals", a Trend Micro security researcher said on Monday.

MS release updates for IE on an almost daily basis via Windows Update for "security flaws".

Seriously, how many can there be?

Firefox is just as bad with Trojans are able to be installed through the Add-ons feature. Mozilla does not have much of a security team (apply patches) compared to Microsoft. Either way, it doesn't matter...someone will continue to find opennings through any software application.

When your fundamental programming model is garbage, and your code base is the worst of "design by committee".. how many problems can there be = all of them.

1) Microsoft applications have a nasty tendency to run their code as "root", but "just for a sec".  Nasty case of "but we're MS, and it's our code anyway, we know what we're doing.. ".  Good programming and security practices be damned.  There is absolutely NO reason for any of the IE/Word/Excel/PowerPoint apps to run as "root" or ring-0 .. but they do it anyway ("but just for a moment!..." )

2) When your underlying design is a spaghetti strainer, it's often impossible to put on enough patches to turn it into a bowl that can hold water.

Some things are just fundamentally impossible to secure.  MS-DOS and it's real-mode kernel.  Bill Clinton's pants.  Paris Hilton's vagina.  Rosie O'Donnel's pie-hole.  And, by the looks of it, MS IE

Internet Explorer is a security flaw.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Only if you're stupid enough to install add-ons from untrusted sources. Seriously, who is that stupid?

Firefox doesn't have any where even close to the amount of security flaws that IE has. Not even close. Shit even Safari is better than IE.

We all like to laugh at Micro$oft once in a while, and IE is just less safe than the others.

Well, not yet. When the full release is out then I expect it to, but just now there are still a few bugs and things not present which would make it much better.
