I ordered the OEM as a combo deal, I figured it was like OEM hardware, no manuals, special box, screws etc.

But now I find out that I need a preinstalled copy of vista, now im facepalming... hard

I have the same version i'm trying to install on my current computer at home, so is there anyway I can get around this?

Anything?

Anyone wanna buy an OEM?

fuck.

Sorry it was typed in a sort of god damn pissed off mood

I bought a Vista Ultimate x64 OEM from Newegg, now I find out (because im a dumbass) that I need a pre-installed version of Vista to actually install Vista with the copy I have

So now I need to sell it because Newegg wont take an OEM software return... That or my friend is out 180$ because of me and now I feel like shit (even though I built him a great computer for 1300$

Any way I can sell this OEM of Vista Ultimate x64?

You need a pre-installed Vista to install this upgrade to ultimate OEM cd, and it cost you $180?

You were ripped off mate.

Upgrading to Ultimate would only gain you:

   1. Windows BitLocker Drive encryption.
   2. Support for simultaneous installation of multiple user interface languages
   3. All worldwide user interface languages (36 total) available
   4. Subsystem for UNIX-based applications

All four are classified by Microsoft as "targeting an audience of IT professionals."

Don't know what you can do, other than try to pass it off on ebay.

Can you give us a link to the exact combo?

IIRC, there isn't an OEM upgrade DVD. Definitely not for $180.

Ebay says that I cant sell it if its an OEM, basically they said, "CANT SELL IT, CANT RETURN IT, SUCK MY COCK"

But I think I might be able to do a Trade with someone?
As in trade for cash?

You can't sell it if you've installed it. If you haven't, I don't see what's stopping you.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

After reading this thread, i find it kinda harsh of Newegg not to help and sort you out with the correct product. I would have quite probably made the same exact mistake, i do hope that Newegg will rectify the situation.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not trying to offend, but you sir are an idiot. When they say, it is intended to be pre-installed on a computer, that simply means that this version of windows is meant for system builders, and you are supposed to provide support. You should be able to install it perfectly fine. Just ignore what it says about pre-installed, install it, and it will work great. I promise. That is what I have running on my desktop and laptop right now.

I'm with Jamiet on this one, not calling you an idiot though

It should install fine and run just like any other OS would, all OEM means is MS wont give you any support and the license is supposed to be tied to the PC it is installed on and is not transferrable to another PC.

All my OSs are OEM as I'm not a thicky and can provide my own software support if I need it.

Just bung the disk in and install it.

I don't see what the problem is.  You don't need a previously installed version of Vista to install an OEM/system builders copy.

System builder copy means if you're building a system to sell, you put that on there. It's like an OEM you buy from like Dell, HP, etc...they have a copy of Windows tied to that PC, it will only ever work on that PC...you can't use that key on another PC ever again. That's all it means, it will work fine.

I got OEM XP Professional and OEM Vista Home Premium when I built my two computers. Both installed perfectly fine and worked without error.

Lol what exactly is the problem? I have that exact type of vista, installed it with no problems. XD

Edit: oic, you're trying to install it on your computer, presumably a pre built? Just wipe that mother fucker and install.
