OK i got an insurance payout after a power surge blew my rig to pieces. My PC is mainly used for gaming, some office stuff & photoshop graphics work as my girlfriend is a graphic designer, i am not up to date with current tech tbh so i would appreciate some guidance from those in the know.

I need.
CPU, PSU, Mobo, RAM, HDD, GFX & after market CPU cooler as well.

old specs

AMD 4200+ dual core
A8N SE SLi MoBo
XFX 7950gt GFX card
some generic 500watt PSU
2gb corsair PC3200 RAM
160gb Seagate Barracuda HDD
Arctic cool 64 CPU cooler.

AH HA HA! No. Amd used to be good, but now they are rebranding the same Cpu's & Gpu's as next gen.

Both the cheapest Quad core cpu's off their respective manufacturers. The C2 will crush the Phenom by atleast 30% even with the 100mhz difference in favor for the Amd.

Also I don't Hate Amd. Just the bullshit situation they put the graphics market in by buying Ati. No competition for Nvidia, by re-releasing the Same basic core every generation with a new name and a few tweaks. They even got Nvidia doing it! The only major difference between the HD2xxx, HD3xxx, and HD4xxx is the series number and the amount of graphics processing pipelines. Same with the 8xxx, 9xxx, and Gtx 200 series.

Honestly when was the last time we had a Major jump in Gpu core architecture? 2006 with the release of the 8 and the X1k series. Now those were real jumps. Everything changed, Windows changed things there was no going back.

No. I'd only get it if I was desperate to shave a bit of cash and didn't care about the performance hit. Don't feel bad for AMD though, they've got the 4870 going for 'em.

P5Q series is great. For you a P5Q Pro would be sufficient though. The dlx makes more sense if you go quad

Looks great. Personally I'd drop to a e8400 since IMO the price increase does not warrant the 0.5 higher multi. Also I prefer to have 4GB (2x2GB) ram. I'd drop the F7LP for a Freezer 7 Pro. It's just £1 more

I just built a very similar PC (e8400, p5q pro, 2x2GB, etc. ) for my father. Damn that thing flies. I'm somewhat jealous. It didn't even need any extra voltage to reach 3.6GHz

You could drop the PSU to a lower powered one; my quad-gpu rig works fine with an enermax modu 525W.

Still, when it comes to PSUs, bigger is better.
