Look the point of the fact here is that some people are appalled by what China does to Tibet. It has NOTHING to do with what ANY OTHER COUNTRY has done. The argument here is about China, nowhere else. The Olympics are supposed to be about the PURITY of sport, so if someone feels like it's not being done on clean or pure grounds, it's their right to complain.
I see both sides, but I'm getting sick of how off topic it's gotten.
I'm watching the whole Olympics. Fuck Tibet for the next 3 weeks.
lol @ cowboys and indians.
i havent had a chuckle like that since grade school!

And I still do. I think not allowing Iraq to play was one of the worst choices they could have made, and a huge disappointment to their Athletes. Especially their Soccer team. Only after protests from around the world did they allow Iraq to play.oChaos.Haze wrote:

I wasn't going to watch the Orympics anyway.
lol true, Jord. You always put things in the simplest, stinging ways. <3jord wrote:

And what you talked about earlier, whether or not the boycotts would work...
It's not about whether or not they work. These days, taking a stance in and of itself is a hard enough thing to do. Making a personal choice based off the cards as they lie, is about all the freedom we have left. Please don't shit on that...
Still tho, I lub your posts...

Why didn't they allowed Iraq to play? Their football team really is good, the beat some historically better football teams.Poseidon wrote:

...and now you see why I hate the IOC.
IOC means Olympic committee? Is that correct? I meant was why didn't they let them play in the first place?Poseidon wrote:

And then overturned here:

"The head of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, Ahmed Al-Samarrai, was kidnapped in July of 2006 and has not been heard from since."
Holy shit, I never knew that. No wonder they created a new position and filled it. Their main guy hasn't been heard from since 2006.

So at first they weren't allowed to compete cos of stupid politicians interfering in sports again. Great.Poseidon wrote:

Who cares? You gotta do what makes you happy as a person. These days I feel like personal happiness is about all we have going for us. If something makes you feel like a better person, and contributor to the world at the end of the day, then so be it..Sup wrote:

Vegetarians boycott meat. How do they boycott it? They don't eat it. As long as they don't tell me what to do, I think the fact that they can make a choice is beautiful.
Off topic I know, lol. Just wanted to show how a personal choice may not affect the world, but it damn sure can make you feel better about yourself and the world you live in.

I see what you are saying, and would love to agree, but that brings us to the point of this argument. We can do all we want, but in today's world, political schemes can always overshadow one's personal choice. I mean you can cry out all you want about the Iraqi invasion, as people did, but does that make it uninvaded? Haha I just made up a word, I think.RastaBlasta wrote:

If you are talking about the karma of the world, and truly believe in that, then I'd agree. But thinking that by not watching the olympics , you will have a material outcome of anything other than you making a personal stance, I'd have to say probably not. But by all means make that personal choice, as I said, it's about all we have anymore...

We should boycott their products, that would be the only realistic thing that might affect the outcome of that story.RastaBlasta wrote:

If the people don't understand why something is unjust, why would we expect the politicians to? Look at some of the replies to this thread and you'll see that a lot of people are only interested in themselves, so why would we expect our leaders to be any different?

Dude, you might've just helped save the world. You've got karma heading your way big-boy!
Here's a bright and colourful list of their sponsors (for anyone who cares)
