Well Euros (and others) - while Ireland soaks up a tsunami of criticism and indignation I'd like to know how you would have voted... Please state where you're from and your reasoning.

Yes.

I've seen a few papers over here supporting the decision, and heard people talking about it.

Tbh though, the GB public weren't clued up on this for the most part.

I mean FFS, my mum's ultra-high in the DWP, and i had to explain this to her.

Oh, I'm from Northen Ireland (Living in England)

Considering how many benefits the Irish have gotten from being in the EU, I'd say it was a bad idea.

Yes, they did do the right thing. Did you hear that French cunt of a Sarkozy talking about how they could still do it without Irish ratification? (heard it on the news) The cheek of some people, they're willing to violate EU law to get this treaty to go through. Fuck politics.

Yes, Ireland did the right thing.
It was just a tweaked version of the one that got the 'no' by France and who else it were.

And even thought it got a no (the Lisbon one), they are still talking about getting it through.
Fåking liberals.

I don't like the Lisbon Treaty cos it wouldnt be a peoples goverment they pick and chose who they want in with no terms in office this leads to an easly corrupt govermant.
Plus we Brits don't want the rest of EU bossing us aroud we see it as there getting back at us tbh..

I think the Irish were wise in not accepting the treaty on the basis of the 'fast-food, superficial, idiots guide' version of the facts that were being fed to them by the Yes camp. This was a complex 250 page document that would ultimately have had every word fought over in the European courts in terms of how it would be implemented had ratification occurred. The No camp were no angels in terms of their presentation of the facts either but the onus was on the Yes camp to illustrate just how trustworthy this treaty actually was and they seemed content to apply a 'just trust us' approach...and I'm afraid I don't trust our Government anymore in light of their sheer ignorance of the huge public disapproval over the use of Shannon by foreign military.

Although I acknowledge that the economic unity of such a European entity would potentially strengthen our hand on the world stage, what really did not appeal to me about the treaty was the level to which power was being centralised into the hands of the few and away from the reality and day to day existence of the common European...particularly a European living in a small country with reduced voting weight; and that's before you start thinking about those five year periods where your commissioner will be twiddling his thumbs while watching 'Fair City' on the box.
