First off, I know this is old news. These drivers were released on September 21st, 2005. However, I'm willing to bet few people here are using them and rather than letting you guys miss out, I thought I'd point these out. And it only now just occured to me to point these out.

These betas drivers are a night and day difference over the current stable ones. You can hear SOOOO much more. It's quite amazing.

However, before downloading, note that these are beta drivers, so they are unsupported and not garunteed stable (although I've been using them for months and have had no issues).

Also note that the little Creative software pack isn't suported by these drivers. You have to fall back to using the old school "Creative Audio Console" that looks like this:

Anyway, if you're still wanting to get them, uninstall your current drivers and reboot the computer. Download and install Driver Cleaner (scroll down for download link) and make sure all Creative items are removed vie it.

Then download and install the betas:

Has anyone else tried these beta drivers for AUDIGY 2 soundcards?  Did they work properly?  Did you notice any improvement with BF2?  +1 given to anyone that provides good feedback.

Those are v2.08.0002 and I think v2.08.0004 are finally out now. However, I see no mention of Open AL or anything, so I've stuck to v2.08.0002 even though I just formatted my PC.

I've been using them since before I made the above post until now and never had a single problem. The improvment is HUGE as you can hear footsteps, arty from the other side of the map (apparently not everyone can), etc. It's like you have way more sensitive ears.

That's an interesting find... I didn't like their drivers that much and have since moved on to the X-Fi.  I still do have an Audigy Platinum eX around.  So I'll definitely be using that to set some changes with the Audigy drivers.  I have always hated having to download their surround mixer app just so that I can disable their AC-3 decoding.  Now if I can just find a small ATX case and some quiet components...

Thanks for the feedback, +1 as promised.  However...

I was using 2_08_0004, which doesn't mention anything about OpenAL, and I always thought the audio was very good.  Heard footsteps, amazing artillery effects, and even the little bleeps of c4 packs right before a spec ops guy blew my tank to smithereens.  Then I tried 2_08_0002, which does mention OpenAL, and the audio was inferior.  Didn't sound anywhere near as good.

My in game audio settings are "hardware" and "high".

So, if you are reading this and wondering which driver to use, SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004.exe is the way to go in my opinion.

Hmm, alright, I may have to upgrade then.

+1 back for the feedback.
